Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common complaint and most people will experience some type of neck pain in their lives at one time or another. Neck pain is any type of pain or discomfort felt in any of the structures in the neck including the muscles, ligaments, nerves, bones and joints of the spine.

The most common causes of neck pain are muscle strain from poor posture, traumatic accidents or falls, and conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, and cervical disk degeneration. Rarely, neck pain can also be caused by tumors, infections, or congenital abnormalities of the spine.

Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain

Chiropractic is a treatment of the problems affecting the nerves, muscles, bones and joints of your body without the use of medications or surgical treatment. Your chiropractor, a health care provider who provides chiropractic care will perform a physical examination and take a brief medical history to diagnose your condition. Other additional test such as X-ray of your neck may be required to confirm the diagnosis and provide necessary treatment.

The chiropractic care for neck pain involves neck adjustments, called cervical manipulation. In cervical manipulation your chiropractor uses hands to twist the neck sharply and snap the vertebrae back into alignment. This tends to loosen up the joints of the cervical vertebrae and thus reduces the pain caused from pinched nerves and muscle spasms.

To improve your range of motion, strengthen muscles, and to prevent the pain from returning, your chiropractor may also suggest exercise, diet, or any lifestyle changes.
